A Yosegi Box That Resembles a Block Puzzle

The surface and inner side of this yosegi box are crafted like an odd block puzzle, liberated from the geometric patterns of typical yosegi-zaiku.

The patterns of the box are comprised of materials that are relatively smaller than the average yosegi-zaiku, with the smallest piece being a square size of 3mm.

With its experimental design and the minuteness of the pieces, this is an originally designed yosegi box that is ambitious in multiple ways.

This product is the result of a collaboration between Yuhei Kojima and ARTISANAL,and it is an artistic work that has been calculated and crafted to precision in order to maximize the colors of wood via human hands.

Yosegi-zaiku developed as a craft during the late Edo period, when yosegi souvenir gifts became popular in the Hakone/Odawara area, the most prosperous inn towns in the Tokaido region.

In the land of Odawara, Yuhei Kimura became interested in wood at a very young age and saw the beauty of yosegi-zaiku as a young man. After training, he started a yosegi workshop named Yukoubou. Respecting trees as nature's gift, the insightful artisan spends months crafting his works entirely by hand.
