This special lacquered skateboard is the result of a collaboration between ARTISANAL TOKYO, MOONSHINE SKATEBOARDS and YUKAKU.

A special board that has been given a lacquer finish to a Moonshine Skateboards' skateboard deck by YUKAKU. The plum blossom patterns are individually hand-drawn with jinoko powder, a natural material that gives the surface of the board a strong grip. Using the board, Mirei Tsuchida, a professional skateboarder for Moonshine, said that she was surprised by its distinct texture and its ability to provide grip that's equally as good as grip tapes. For the rear side, after the board is thoroughly dried, fuki-urushi, a repeated process of coating lacquer and wiping it about 4 to 5 times, is applied as a final, delicate touch. YUKAKU

YUKAKU, a Japanese lacquerware brand, was founded in 2018 by Kentaro Moroishi and Yuko Moroishi after they studied lacquer at the Wajima Lacquerware Technical Training Institute in Ishikawa Prefecture. They were drawn to the charm of lacquer, which can play both a leading and supporting role in various forms of artwork.

Their goal is to expand the possibilities of lacquer by using their passion for creating cute, cool, interesting, and exciting pieces of art. YUKAKU produces a wide range of products, including dishes and various lacquerware items, by combining their individual skills and finishing techniques.

The brand is based in Wajima City, and they work together in their studio to create their unique pieces. The entire production process, from woodwork to finishing, is done by hand, giving each piece a unique touch.
